First aid and CPR are good skills for anyone involved in adventure sports – just in case. And, you need these skills for the PADI Rescue Diver course.
Emergency First Response is a PADI affiliate that specializes in teaching these lifesaving skills – and they’re for anyone, not just divers. Most PADI Instructors are also Emergency First Response Instructors!
“Challenging” and “rewarding” best describe the PADI Rescue Diver course. Building upon what you’ve already learned, this course expands on what you already know about how to prevent problems, and how to manage them if they occur.
Technical diving is scuba diving’s “extreme” sport, taking experienced and qualified divers far deeper than in mainstream recreational diving. Technical diving is marked by significantly more equipment and training requirements to manage the additional hazard this type of diving entails. Tec diving isn’t for everyone, but for those who hear its challenge call, the PADI TecRec courses are the answer.

The hubs and I got certified over the weekend!!! And we owe it all to the guys at Maximum Scuba. We did the elearning and went to mammoth lake to do our pool and open water dives. During the pool sessions, Jeff kept us relaxed and laughing all while making sure we were completely comfortable with each skill. I had a little trouble at the beginning of our first open water dive but Chris stayed right with me until I felt comfortable, relaxed and able to perform the required skills. Day 2 of open water dives with Jeff and Richard just flew by without so much as a hiccup and I owe it all to the patience and understanding of all these awesome guys. We're already planning a trip back to do our advanced class and considering booking a dive trip with them. They're a truly amazing group. Thanks a lot, Jeff G, Richard, Chris, Carl and Jeff. See yall soon.
When you see other divers just hanging out at the shop for hours - you know they have a good thing going. Jeff, the owner, simply wants to share his love of diving and all things sea-related (ask him about thrasher sharks). He's knowledgeable and meticulous!Testimonial-Required
(Yelp Review Seabrook) Maximum Scuba is awesome! They will do whatever it takes to help you during your certification class. I was having trouble with some of the skills in the pool and my instructor Jeff Gordon helped me until i felt completely comfortable. The staff does a great job making you feel at home and doesn't try to pressure you to buy anything, instead they just share their knowledge with their customers. I signed up for my Advanced class because they are excellent instructors and give you the opportunity to have fun at the same time! this dive shop is 5 stars hands down.
I can’t believe I got certified yesterday since I wanted to quit after the first practice day. I decided to come back because everyone at Maximum Scuba was so welcoming and patient with me that I did not want to let them down. I am so glad I did! Alekx was so patient with me and literally held my hand through all the dives to complete my certification. Carl and him stayed after everyone left just to get me down one 4th and final time to complete all requirements. I will never forget the last dive because I felt so confident with the training and having them by my side. I can say it is the beginning of many fun diving experiences to come! I will never forget them and I am so thankful for their dedication to me and their students. I can’t wait to join them in a diving trip soon!
My girlfriend took the PADI OW course last month with Eric. She had some significant mask issues while on the open water dives. His tireless resolve, dedication, and kindness really got her through the course. She had nothing by great things to say about Carl as well as the entire maximum scuba crew.
We will recommend your scuba classes to anyone interested in SCUBA in the Houston area.
The very nice, and professional staff made this just an exceptional experience. All of my business, as well as recommendations go to these great people. After training with them, instead of diving every now and then on vacation, ill be a weekend warrior! Very special thank you to Mark Erminger for patience, and knowledge. Will be back soon for my advanced class!
Awesome Experience......I took the PADI open water dive class with Carl. Carl is a very enthusiastic and patient teacher who you can tell really enjoys what he does. I feel as though I learned a ton and never felt nervous in the water. While at the lake, they also have divemasters assist your instructor in an effort to have as many pro's around you as possible. Their knowledge and patience is what made this class really enjoyable and I never had the feeling like I was being rushed or couldn't ask a question or ten. I would recommend this to anyone and I'm going to sign up soon for the advanced class ASAP.
I highly recommend visiting Maximum Scuba! They are very welcoming, and make you feel at home. If you're ever in the area, make sure to plan the day at Mammoth Lake Waterpark! Jeff Gordon (one of the owners) is the most educated and helpful Instructor i've ever had the privilege to work with. Go see for yourself! :
(Yelp Review Seabrook) This is the best dive shop around!!!!! Very friendly/helpful staff. Best thing is they don't bug or pressure you to buy anything or sign up. Everyone is very laid back are caring. I have stepped into other dive shops before them and I will never go anywhere else.
(Yelp Review Seabrook) Great business. Great employees. Great owners. They address any concerns you may have about diving and move at whatever pace the slowest person moves at.
I just finished this class and was certified Sunday. I cannot say enough good things about this company. Alex was an awesome instructor. All the people connected with Maximum Scuba were were very patient and very professional. These guys know their stuff. I could not have had a better introduction to SCUBA than what I got from Alex and Maximum Scuba. I always felt safe during the class, Alex was there as well as several other Dive Masters. Just an awesome week. Thank you guys so much for all that you did and I cannot wait to get back in the water.
My husband and I just finished our open water certification at the Seabrook store and our instructor was Patrick. He was friendly, informative, knowledgeable and made the process fun! I struggled some at the lake and he was calm and reassuring the whole time and never once showed an ounce of frustration or anything other than support. If you have an option I would highly recommend requesting Patrick if you can. Thank you for all your help this past week!
(Yelp Review Seabrook) I got both my open water and my advanced open water with these guys a year ago. I have nothing but good things to say. Everyone was very friendly, helpful, and knowledgable. I cannot wait to get my more advanced certs. I will definitely only go to maximum!
My husband and I just got back from Mexico where we "snuba'd"...thought it was just a "throw a mask on and give me some air" kinda thing...but found out it was almost as good as the real thing. After seeing all that beauty under the water I was hooked. 2 weeks later my son, husband and I were sitting in Pat's class ready to learn to dive. I just wanted to say thank you to Pat, Mark and Phoenix for making my first week of scuba better than I expected. I learned a LOT in such a short week and then learned so much on the weekend dives at Mammoth. I have to admit that I was very nervous and had a few rough minutes underwater but thanks to all of you I made it thru and CANNOT wait to get back under the water again. We will all 3 be at the Advanced class end of October and cannot wait to continue learning and seeing more. It sounds kinda cheesy but I learned a lot about myself this past weekend and appreciate the patience and direction all of you gave...it really gave me a chance to get over my fears and on to diving! Just can't wait to see some clear water and have that peaceful feeling of seeing all of that awesomeness the ocean has to offer again real soon. Thank you guys!!! Michelle Budd
(Yelp Review Houston) Get your certification done here. The staff is awesome and they make sure it's a great and fun experience for you. Eric was my instructor and he was great and seemed to be passionate about what he does. He was also patient with me. I would definitely recommend my friends and family to come here if they needed certification.
(Yelp review) My husband and I have wanted to our advanced for a while now. When we saw the living social deal for the advanced certs, we knew it was an opportunity we could not pass up. The lady that answered the phone was a little short, but after coming into the store and getting everything set up, it all went very well! The Friday before our dives we came in and got fitted with all our gear.
These are a good group of people and we will definitely be diving with them again. Jeff really cares that you learn it and you can always ask questions. They have dive masters at the lake that are there to work with you.
Just to say, we loved it!
This is the only dive shop I would ever recommened! I have been to most of the dive shops in the Houston area and none have come close to the experience of MAXIMUM SCUBA! All the staff are very skilled divers, they are all extermely helpful, patient, and they really do care about the students! There is no sales pressure and if you do buy gear from them they offer many great incentives! Not only have I become a better diver in a short time but I had a load of fun and smiles doing it!I recommened MAXIMUM SCUBA to anyone over any other shop; hands down the BEST IN TEXAS!
My grandson and I were introduced to Maximum Scuba diving through the Groupon Discover Scuba. This is a great deal. Our instructor made our experience so relaxed and fun that we both have gone on to complete the Open Water and Advanced Open Water classes with Carl Griffin instructing and are looking forward to taking the Enriched Air Nitrox Class so we will be ready for a Scuba trip to Bonaire next summer. Great instructors, good quality gear included in the classes.
(Yelp Review) This Maximum Scuba team is awesome. Instructors are very good: informed, friendly, caring, focused on safety. When I had a scheduling difficulty, they worked with me to find a good time for all. My two teens are getting certified and I could not be more happy with Jeff, Danielle and the team.
This is Camp Casa Mare’s third year to work with Maximum Scuba. It is not by chance we have received excellent service and impeccable instruction three years in a row! We have been fortunate to find a dive shop that understands and fits our program. Our Dive masters and instructors were Jeff Gordon and Dustin Gelfo for our five teenage Girl Scouts and one leader. Instantly Jeff began to connect with the girls. From day one the girls were comfortable and excited to learn how to scuba dive. As with any new material that someone is learning, being nervous is normal and our instructor, Dustin was fantastic at calming the nerves of the girls. Both of our instructors were great at showing their excitement under water and were patient, kind and enthusiastic about diving. Jeff’s enthusiasm for diving was contagious and passed along to our new divers. They can’t wait to continue diving and master other levels within Padi. Jeff, Dustin and the Maximum Scuba team exemplifies Padi standards and our Girl Scout standards, above and beyond! The girls even loved being at the scuba shop! They said everyone was so nice and helpful. Some even wanted to work there! To see five teenagers smile and laugh is priceless. If I could give six stars this would be the shop that gets it!
Jeff Here we are a week after the scout leader course and I’m just getting a chance to catch my breath. I just wanted to take a moment to say, “thanks”. You helped make the course something special. Several of our participants said they had had an opportunity to do a discover SCUBA event in the past but by far found this to have been the most different, interesting, and exciting opportunity ever due to the unique venue. I have had a chance to read the participants’ evaluations and by far your event was the highlight of the weekend and generated the greatest volume of photos and video. Your staff were professional yet approachable and did a great job of representing Maximum SCUBA. I had several who commented that they would be looking you up for their future diving activities. Thanks for your support of Scouting and thanks to PADI for sending me to you. Maximum-SCUBA was the right choice. Tod Taylor Asst. Course Director-Instructors Powder Horn 2012
I came upon Maximum scuba after speaking with 3 other dive shops for scuba certification and being disappointed by the lack of customer service by all 3, from personnel that did a good job of making me feel as if I was wasting their time to having my reservation for certification class being cancelled TWICE. I spoke with a girl name Callie (*sp) at the Seabrook location who was both, very upbeat and excited about scuba AND very informative/helpful. I made an hour drive to attend the class in Seabrook because of the reception I received from the shop over the phone and was in NO way disappointed when I got to the classroom. Everyone I encountered from our instructor “Neil”, the Owner Jeff, Dive Masters both Dustin’s, Steve, Pat etc. was excited about what they were doing and it SHOWED. I will say that for anyone not near Seabrook, there IS a Richmond location (I realized later) that is owned by the same guy and a few of our dive masters were out of that location and had the same spirit and attitude. I have a dive shop literally 1.3 miles away from my house and I choose to go to Maximum Scuba’s Richmond location (23 miles from me) instead because I refuse to give my hard earned money to people that don’t earn it with customer service. Beyond that, The owner JEFF will match any price you can find that beats his price on the same service or product. All he asks is that you provide him with the price either in writing or a web link. If you are reading this and you need scuba gear or ESPECIALLY classes, do YOURSELF a favor and call them so you can see for yourself what I am trying to convey here. These people are great, love what they do, and will prove it to you with their knowledge, service and upbeat positive attitudes. -Ryann
(Yelp Review Houston) My girlfriend and I took the PADI Open Water certification at the Richmond location and had the opportunity of having Pat Keller as our instructor. It was a positive experience and I would recommend friends and family to Maximum Scuba. We had good expecations of Maximum Scuba and its instructors because they had been recommended by some of our friends. I have not taken classes at other scuba training locations in Houston but from talking to the other shops and from online research I would say the following separates Maxiumum Scuba from the rest:
- I got the feeling they actually cared about their course participants and the experience we had. It seems simple but in this day and age it means something. I felt safe and comfortable during the entire experience.
- The cost was low, I never felt sales pressure and THEY DID NOT MAKE YOU purchase equipment before the course which was the biggest selling point. They allow you to use loaner equipment and it seemed to be of good quality.
- They were very accommodating. In one instance a pair of rental fins were uncomfortable while we were training at the lake. Pat made a couple calls and had a coworker bring some larger size fins out for me.
- The instructor Pat made the training fun. He is a very comedic and animated guy that totally fits the cliche of a west coast hippie surfing instructor (or in this case scuba).
I took a private class with Pat Keller to get certified before I go to Costa Rica, and Pat really worked with my schedule to get all the class and dives completed before I leave. He was a great instructor! He really knew all the material, and he made the class fun and enjoyable. I feel like the information really stuck with me. On the dives, he was very in-tune to what was going on and had great advice on how to become the best diver I can be. I look forward to getting my advanced open water and adventure dive certifcations with Pat!
(Yelp Review) Stop shopping....if you want to get your C card for scuba Jeff is your man! Flat fees make it simple and you get the chance to discover scuba before buying all your gear.....call now!
Hey Jeff, I am thankful to you. You are a wonderful teacher. I would not have dived in since I was scared of deep water (though it was just ten feet). I could trust you with the waters and had the most wonderful sight, I always loved watching the sunlight dim through the water as we go in. Thanks a ton. I will definitely get the certification done. I am not scared anymore, I feel more comfortable using the diving gear and the tank. Thanks once again. Vijetha
I am writing this to PADI Quality Management in review of my recent experience with Maximum Scuba in Houston, TX. I attended the school during the week of July 4-10 to receive my open water certification. I would rate my experience with them as excellent. The instructor for my course was Pat Keller. Pat is extremely knowledgeable in the technical areas of teaching as well as practical application of the classroom material. He not only made sure that we knew the information but his presentation style kept the class fun and interesting. During class he was patient when it came to answering questions and clearing up any of the students concerns. When it came to practical application of the classroom material, Pat was once again extremely patient on our initial trip to the pool. He took time to give each student personal attention and ensure that everyone was up to speed on the skills needed to be a good and safe diver. Because of my experience with Pat Keller and Maximum Scuba, I will definitely be returning to the school to continue my education as a diver and would highly recommend Pat Keller as the instructor to request. Sincerely, Darren Waddleton
Dear Management, I just wanted to let you know about 2 of your employees Cali & Neil. I was leaving on a Cruise & I had a week to get my certification done! These to went above and beyond to make sure I was confident & ready for my dive in Cozumel! When it was the final day & we were in the water in Cozumel I was excited & not nervous at all! The dive was fantastic! I would recommend your Company to anybody! Thanks again, -- Bryan Gates
I’d like to take a few minutes to write to you about my experience with Maximum Scuba in Houston, Texas, and even more specifically my instructor, Pat Keller. I too used to be in the retail/consumer industry and know all too well we tend to hear the bad experiences about 10 times as often as we hear about the good ones. I’d taken the class about 12 years ago through a man my father had located prior to taking a trip to Cozumel and diving. Time went by and I forgot most everything but reached a stage in my life I wanted to pursue it again so I decided to start over with the Open Water Diver class. I chose Maximum Scuba based on some reviews I read online, but to be perfectly honest location had alot to do with it. The dive shop is about 15 minutes from my house. From day one in the classroom I knew we were going to have a unique experience. Mr. Keller knew exactly how to deliver the necessary information to each member of our class. There were 7 of us total, including a 12 year old boy who thought ‘Pat’ was the coolest thing ever. It felt as though we were receiving a one-on-one session. His humor never overpowered the important nature of the information he was conveying. He took the time to work with each and every one of us, always assuring us he would “stay as long as he had to” to make sure we understood every piece of information we were receiving. Halfway through the week, I decided I wanted to pursue my Advanced OWD course and signed up to ensure I would have Pat as my instructor. The weekend at the lake was fantastic and by 1:00pm Sunday afternoon, every one of the 7 students in my class had decided to move forward with their Advanced OWD certification. As others have said, I too do not typically take the time to email/call/survey, etc. describing my experience, but in this case I felt it was the very least I could do. I plan to continue my diving adventures and studies and will be using Maximum Scuba all the way. Thank you, -William L. Forkner
(Yelp Review) Maximum Scuba rocks! Not only because it has the best price in the world, it is the best place to learn scuba diving whether you are a beginner or you want to continue to become a pro.
I took the PADI beginner open water class in such a time crunch, and the staffs and instructors were super supportive and helpful working with my crazy schedule. They were not trying to charge me for private lessons when I was the only person in the session, and they were not trying to sell me gears, all they wanted was for me to understand the course materials and learn all the necessary skills to become a successful and safe open water diver.
I want to give a special thanks for my instructor Pat Keller, because his dedication in teaching and his passion for scuba diving has made my learning experience extremely enjoyable. He was fun during the classroom session, and he was even more fun under water! You got to see his batman-themed gears and his dance under water.
Now I'm ready for many more scuba diving adventures, all thanks to Maximum Scuba and Pat.
Dear PADI, I do not take time to write about my consumer experiences good or bad, but Pat Keller is an exception. I was originally certified under Naui in Oct 1978 and after many year lay off from diving thought best to get totally re certified and plan to return to active diver status( I believe in re training every 33 years whether needed or not!!!!;-) . A close friend found Maximum Scuba off the internet and we got Mr Keller by luck of the draw. I am have been a full time professional speaker for over 25 years ( www.DavisSeminars.com / www.FitandFunny.net www.KangarooCarry.com ) and from my professional view feel Mr Keller is uniquely qualified to teach. He blends the right amount of humor to hold your attention and never lets the humor over shadow the serious tone of the sport. He is equal parts entertainment, education and motivation to be a better safer diver. He has a unique ability to relate the material to each student as an individual even though the 6 of us have as different backgrounds as possible from skittish about water to returning Divers like myself. After seeing many speaker / trainers as well as doing same for a living and his balancing act of teaching among our widely varied scuba class was / is impressive in the extreme. Scuba Instruction is a super delicate subject and Mr Keller has a delicate style that makes the material approachable. He is a professional standard you could comfortably use as a template for any other instructor in your program. While his outward appearance is casual and easy; the deeper teacher part is as focused as skilled. So as stated earlier I don’t have time or desire to whine or praise many services, but my time with Mr Keller warrants up chain kudos in my opinion. I truly feel my scuba instruction was of the highest caliber at any price and reflects well of the PADI standards. Blue Skies, Austin Davis
Just finished the open water course this weekend and it felt great! The whole crew makes learning everything a breeze and fun. The schedule is VERY flexible and they will do anything possible to accommodate your needs. Overall I couldn’t be any more satisfied with them and would recommend them to everyone. No pressure is put on you to purchase their equipment and all gear is supplied for the class.
I have to say that Maximum Scuba is an awesome dive shop. Their all inclusive classes make it easy for you to go and try out scuba diving before you start buying all the equipment. All of the other shops that I called said you had to buy the equipment first. As a beginner, I did not want to buy equipment until I knew I was going to like it. Well I have to say I love it! I am not sure that I would have fallen in love with diving if it wasn’t for the wonderful instruction and comraderie that I felt at Maximum Scuba. From the moment I walked through the front door, they made me feel welcome and comfortable. They also offer student discounts on all equipment. They are honest and their prices are great. Their enthusiasm and passion for diving make every dive exciting and fun. I highly recommend Maximum Scuba to everyone! I am going to continue on to become an instructor myself. Thank you Maximum Scuba!
Maximum Scuba-PADI AMERICAS Dear Sirs I would like to take a minute to write a personal letter of commendation for your instructor at Maximum Scuba Store in Seabrook Texas. I had a wonderful experience in the class. It was very informative, and contained a lot of positive energy. Our instructor, Pat Keller was very knowledgeable, patient and even funny at times! Everyone in the class felt comfortable and I felt like I got to know a dive buddy as well as an instructor. I appreciated his honest opinion regarding equipment and dive sites. I didn’t feel as though he was just “trying to make a buck “. He listened to our questions and gave an honest answer to our needs. His understanding of the material, and his ability to impart that knowledge on a level that everyone in the class could understand was amazing. I certainly plan to take advanced classes with him! I felt comfortable in the confined water dives and very safe during my first time in the open water! He is a wonderful credit to your industry! Thank you very much Sincerely Brian Zeringue
I am writing to you with special thanks and compliments to one of your instructors. I recently obtained my PADI Open Water Certification through eLearning and Maximum Scuba in Seabrook Texas. The instructor I wish to compliment is Patrick Keller. I will complete the online survey as I always want to provide feedback whenever possible, but in this particular case I feel that I should go above and beyond such a survey to show my sincere appreciation for this instructor and the many reasons he impressed me. First of all, diving is obviously about doing something you love and PADI often emphasizes that you must have a mature attitude and yet it should be fun! In my opinion Patrick is the embodiment of this idea. He is obviously deeply committed and knows the material down to the itty-bitty details, and when he talks about this knowledge you know he is serious, but then he lightens up the room and makes everyone laugh! I think this attitude is very important in any classroom, but especially when you are learning about something that is a wonderful adventure, but without knowledge it could turn hazardous quickly. His ability to make people laugh, and lighten the atmosphere enables the student to not feel intimidated to ask a question - even one that might appear to be silly in front of the class. He gives everyone an amazing comfort level, he imparts knowledge with antidotes of experience and humor - often very humble words of hard earned experience. Patrick is a wonderful addition to the staff of Maximum Scuba of Seabrook Texas, and fantastic ambassador for the PADI organization, and a wonderful mentor. Please make sure that he gets this note from me, and tell him that “I am watching” (inside Joke).
i took my open water class at the end of last year and I was the only one in the class. I had a great time, learned a lot, and discovered a new passion for diving. There is not one thing I would change about jeff, Pat, Mason or any of the other great people I met when I was their. The point of me taking the class was to prepare for a solo trip to the DR, which was fantastic by the way, and I would say that I was more prepared than any of the other rookie divers out their. I really did have a blast and want to thank everyone at Maximum Scuba for their help. I am back in town now and am looking forward to taking my advanced and rescue classes with you by the end of the summer as I have been accepted to A&M Galveston in the fall and wish to be more prepared than the other students. Again thank you guys and girls for your wonderful service. I would not hesitate to say that ya’ll are the very best at what you do, and after price checking before, you are also the best deal by far. thank you and keep up the good work.
Jeff is an outstanding instructor! My fiance and I completed our Open Water certification with him in December and just returned from our first dive vacation in St Lucia. We had a great time - the diving was awesome. But the best part was that we felt completely prepared. Jeff is really good at what he does and he can make even the most novice student feel comfortable and confident. His passion and enthusiasm for diving make it impossible not to have great time. I can’t wait for the opportunity to get back in the water with him. Many thanks Jeff. -Karlee & Kevin
I just finished the Open Water Certification with Maximum Scuba and had a great experience. Jeff, Carrie, and Pat were all amazing and made us feel comfortable from day one. I called a lot of scuba stores in the Houston area and it was going to end up costing me around $800 because everyone else makes you purchase equipment. Maximum lets you take the class and use their equipment for only $300. Great deal. I can’t wait to take the Advanced course with them.
just recently had the pleasure of working with Maximum Scuba! They have 2 locations one in Houston and Seabrook! I have found that the staff is AMAZING! They know what they are doing and are excellent teachers. They aren’t just a store to make money but to share their love of Scuba. They have fun when they scuba and they pass it along to their students. This is a great shop for lessons, if you just want to stop in and ask a question or buy something. I can’t say how awesome the staff is at both locations, I will always use Maximum Scuba!
Maximum Scuba certified me all the way up though rescue diver and I would recommend every friend or family member to go there for all their diving needs. They are always friendly, knowledgeable, safe, and you can’t beat their prices. I have also been to Cozumel and Belize with them and both trips exceeded my expectations. They also got me involved with my new favorite sport...spearfishing...you will never look at deep sea fishing the same again!
When I was looking for a scuba shop to learn diving 3 months ago, I talked to four of the largest stores in Houston / Katy area. All of them would require me to buy a set of gear before taking the class, which put me off a little bit as I didn’t know if the sport was for me or how often I would do it, or what kind of gear is best for me, as there are so many brands and models for everything. Then someone on ScubaBoard suggested me to check out Maximum Scuba as it just opened a 2nd store in Houston. and soon I found out that this was the only store that doesn’t want you to buy a bunch of things even before you get started. There was no overselling, no pushing to buy this and that. They want to introduce you to the great sport of scuba, also at the best price I could find in town. In fact I didn’t have to buy anything to attend the class, not even fins or mask. As I work in downtown, the location was very convenient. More over, they are very flexible in the schedule. It just happened that I couldn’t do the whole class in a week at the time, they worked with me to attend the class over 2 week period, without any extra charge (other shops are not so easy to work with as I learned) They even let me in an extra pool session in the second week to get more comfortable in water. The teacher and his assistants were very experienced, patient, and helpful. the class size was small, just 4 people in both weeks. Thanks to Marc and Jeff, a few weeks after I took the class and got PADI certified in Open Water Diving, I went on a trip to the Caribbean and had the best time diving for the first time in my life. It was absolutely awesome! As I don’t think I could afford the time to go diving in the tropics that often at this point, I think I’ll also take up their offer to join them at the local lake on the weekends to practice diving and keep up my skills - another great part of learning diving with this shop!
Thanks Maximum Scuba! You made my Day. your business has to be the nicest and funniest place I have ever Shopped for scuba. You made a person very Happy.
I wanted to tell everyone what a great job you did with us. It was better than we thought it could be and our guide told me the first thing I should do is thank you for the great job you did. He said we all did great and could tell that our instructor was excellent. We used Happy Fish Divers in Cayman and they were also great. Thanks again and we’ll see you soon. Frank, Kirsten and Bart”
I chose Maximum Scuba for my Rescue Diver training as well as my Divemaster training, and I couldn’t be more satisfied with my experience. The instructors are extremely informative and enthusiastic, and go out of their way to make their students feel comfortable. The staff is knowledgeable about their products and local diving. I would recommend Maximum Scuba for all scuba certification levels and gear purchases and repairs.
MAXIMUM SCUBA rocks!!! Why would anyone want to go anywhere else to get scuba certified. This is the place! Awesome instructors, the staff is knowledgable, and 2 locations to choose from. What more can you ask for. Thanks Maximum Scuba! Can’t wait to become an advanced diver!!!
Can’t wait to go on one of the Cozumel trips. Always a blast diving with the folks from Maximum Scuba. Safe and Fun Adventure no matter where or when. Never any high-pressure sales tactics. Took my Open water a year ago and have logged over 40 dives since. Best hobby I ever got into.
I have been with Maximum Scuba since I figured it was time to learn scuba. Jeff and Maximum Scuba have instructed me from open water diver all the way to Dive master. From the beginning Jeff and his family have taken me in and made me one of their own, I couldn’t have asked for a better shop are group of people to be around. Maximum Scuba is awesome and should be everyone’s first choice for scuba lessons and gear! Thanks Maximum Scuba for everything.
(Yelp Review) I needed to get my certification quickly for an upcoming trip, and after calling pretty much every place in town, Maximum gave me the best deal. Weekly classes at $300 all inclusive; no frills, no hidden costs, and no obligation to buy equipment. I almost couldn't believe it.
After signing up, I found out that I couldn't make one of the evening classes. I thought I would have to cancel, but after speaking with the master instructor Jeff, he made it clear that he was flexible and I could make up the session over the weekend.
The classes were small (2-3 students max) and very informative as well as entertaining. I learned a great deal about scuba from Jeff's personal stories, which got me even more excited about my upcoming trip. Even when we hit the lake at an icy 60 degrees F, Jeff and his assistant instructors were excited about the dive and kept the group in high spirits. He was even kind enough to provide a meal after the final dive.
Although I have no experience with other scuba training locations, I would recommend Maximum any day. Not only is it a very good deal; the course runs very naturally and hits all of the important safety topics. Jeff even offers to loan equipment and instruction for future refresher dives and classes at no cost for all his students. I am definitely considering going back for my advanced training!
(Yelp Review) I had wanted to get my scuba certificate for a long time. Plowing through all the dive shops to find the best deal was always a chore - Some of the dive shops' pricing were so convoluted that it gave me a headache and others never fit my schedule.
Not so with Maximum Scuba - Jeff had an all inclusive price of $300 and was ready to start the following Monday. To my surprise, I was the only student in my class - all the more surprising was the fact that he did not cancel the class nor waited until more students signed up.
That's the nice thing about Maximum Scuba - Jeff will teach one or thirty it makes no difference to him, unlike many other PADI shops that are purely profit oriented Jeff sees his primary mission as teaching.
The classroom time was fairly straight forward and was done over the course of three evenings - obviously being solo, sped up the process quite a bit.
The fourth evening was spent in the pool and this is where you actually learn the skills that will keep you safe in your SCUBA career.
The pool is also the area where Jeff's teaching skills really excelled, his technique made it a breeze to learn the required skills.
Once the lake dives crept up this past weekend - I felt that I was thoroughly prepared for the skills to make me an Open Water diver.
Sure enough the lake dives were easy and even though the water was a mere 65F - Maximum provided me with wetsuits thick enough to keep me comfortable.
So now a week after starting, I finished my Open Water Certification - as a matter of fact I so enjoyed Maximum Scuba that I decided to keep going to the next level.
Incidentally, all inclusive really does mean all inclusive: Books/DVD, class, gear, mask, BCD, fins, wetsuit, tanks and pool time - everything except the lake fees which is $15 per day.
(Yelp Review) I found out about Maximum Scuba through a friend, and I am glad I did! Like some of the other reviewers mentioned, their prices are absolutely the most competitive because they do not force you to buy equipment. All of the necessary rental equipment is included in the cost of the class, and you only buy equipment if you decide that you want your own. This is absolutely essential, as you really need to try out different types of equipment to determine what is right for you before you buy - not an option with most of the other dive shops. Maximum Scuba employees are also extremely helpful in choosing equipment for purchase depending on the type of diving you plan to do as well as how often you plan to dive.
They are also really flexible too - I had a tight schedule, and they found a way to squeeze me in a class last minute so that I was certified in time for my trip to Cozumel. The instructors are very knowledgable and patient - they took extra time with me when I had some difficulty with parts of the courses and offered to do additional dives to increase my comfort level.
Maximum Scuba allows you to be involved with scuba as you would like to be. They schedule trips and events and nearly always have dives planned if you want to dive but don't have the time for a long trip. I would highly recommend Maximum Scuba to anyone who is interested in scuba diving - whether just buying equipment or getting certification, they are the best. The staff is awesome, prices are competitive and the schedules are flexible.
(Yelp Review Houston) When I was looking for a scuba shop to learn diving 3 months ago, I talked to four of the largest stores in Houston / Katy area. All of them would require me to buy a set of gear before taking the class, which put me off a little bit as I didn't know if the sport was for me or how often I would do it, or what kind of gear is best for me, as there are so many brands and models for everything. Then someone on ScubaBoard suggested me to check out Maximum Scuba as it just opened a 2nd store in Houston. and soon I found out that this was the only store that doesn't want you to buy a bunch of things even before you get started. There was no overselling, no pushing to buy this and that. They want to introduce you to the great sport of scuba, also at the best price I could find in town. In fact I didn't have to buy anything to attend the class, not even fins or mask.

(Yelp Review Houston) Maximum Scuba certified me all the way up though rescue diver and I would recommend every friend or family member to go there for all their diving needs. They are always friendly, knowledgeable, safe, and you can't beat their prices. I have also been to Cozumel and Belize with them and both trips exceeded my expectations. They also got me involved with my new favorite sport...spearfishing...you will never look at deep sea fishing the same again!
(Yelp Review Houston) I just recently had the pleasure of working with Maximum Scuba! They have 2 locations one in Houston and Seabrook! I have found that the staff is AMAZING! They know what they are doing and are excellent teachers. They aren't just a store to make money but to share their love of Scuba. They have fun when they scuba and they pass it along to their students. This is a great shop for lessons, if you just want to stop in and ask a question or buy something. I can't say how awesome the staff is at both locations, I will always use Maximum Scuba!
(Yelp Review Seabrook) I really like these guys (and gals). they go out of their way to make sure you are happy. They are the most flexible shop in town and they make sure you are a confident safe diver without nickle and dimeing you to death.
(Yelp Review Seabrook) Looked around and found Maximum to be very Newbie friendly for someone who was interested in diving. Jeff and Mary will go out of their way to help you and they offer a no-hassle PADI certification which includes your gear rental for the course. Im just starting the advanced cert and purchasing my first set of gear and they will spend countless hours with you answering questions. Maximum is all about customer service, they love what they do. The instructors are awesome!
