There are people who teach scuba because it’s a job, and then there’s Carl. Carl teaches because he is passionate about the sport and loves what he does. Jeff, the owner, is just as passionate. These guys love scuba and their enthusiasm bleeds through everything they do.

My wife and I completed our PADI Open Water Diver certification at Maximum Scuba – Mammoth Lake in August of 2015. We had to reschedule our training twice due to hectic work schedules and both times the representatives at Maxim Scuba were happy to reschedule our training. Their rental gear was in great condition, and they had enough gear to cover everything we wanted or needed. Douglas Terry was our scuba instructor and he was FANTASTIC. He made the course feel very personal and made us feel safe at all times. He is extremely knowledgeable and adjusted the course to our learning curves. Doug shared many of his dive experiences with us and gave us great insight & advice for our upcoming dives. Due to heavy rain and weather fluctuations, the visibility at Mammoth Lake was very limited, 1-2 feet, so just to be sure everything went smoothly (safety and comfort), Doug called in reinforcements. This is something that really set Doug apart. He puts safety and personal comfort first, and really cares about how his students feel. Another very experienced (since the 1960s!) dive master named Bob joined us and he was great. He was cheerful and funny, and shared many of his great dive experiences with us. At the beginning of the course, we were very reserved and wary of diving, but by the end, Doug and Bob prepared us well and now we are excited and ready to begin our newfound dive journey. Overall, our experience was amazing and we feel very fortunate to have had Doug and Bob as our leaders. We highly recommend both Maxim and Douglas Terry for diver certification!

Finding Maximum Scuba was one of the best things that happened to us in Houston. My fiancé and I wanted to get open water dive certificate and found Maximum scuba through its glowing online reviews. Now that we got the certificate, we agree with the reviewers. Maximum scuba rocks. One of the features we liked about Maximum scuba was that they are not solely profit oriented, but they genuinely want you to fall in love with scuba diving, and they care about your experience. In one word, we felt like they loved their job of training scuba divers.Our instructor was Carl, and we couldn’t have asked for a better instructor. Carl is very professional and safe (both as a diver and as an instructor), and has the perfect attitude for training. We liked that Carl never addressed issues in a personal level, but he always talks to the team, even if it concerned only one diver.Besides Carl, we got to know Don and Jeff. Jeff was the owner, and we figured was the soul behind the good attitude at maximum scuba. Don, was our dive master, and his combination with Carl was beyond imagination. They both have a very good sense of humor. The folks at Maximum scuba are the type of people you do not only want to train with, but you also want to go scuba diving with. We will definitely go to Maximum scuba if we want more certificates for scuba diving, or if we want to take a diving trip to the places which Carl notes as the “heavens”.If you are wondering wether or not to take the deal where you purchase your own equipment (e.g. mask, snorkel, fins, boots), don’t hesitate, and take the deal. Maximum scuba carries high quality equipment (mostly from Atomic aquatics) and the pricing is very fair (better than you can find online!). You also get the added bonus that you get to try everything, and select the one that suits you best.

I can’t believe I got certified yesterday since I wanted to quit after the first practice day. I decided to come back because everyone at Maximum Scuba was so welcoming and patient with me that I did not want to let them down. I am so glad I did! Alekx was so patient with me and literally held my hand through all the dives to complete my certification. Carl and him stayed after everyone left just to get me down one 4th and final time to complete all requirements. I will never forget the last dive because I felt so confident with the training and having them by my side. I can say it is the beginning of many fun diving experiences to come! I will never forget them and I am so thankful for their dedication to me and their students. I can’t wait to join them in a diving trip soon!

The hubs and I got certified over the weekend!!! And we owe it all to the guys at Maximum Scuba. We did the elearning and went to mammoth lake to do our pool and open water dives. During the pool sessions, Jeff kept us relaxed and laughing all while making sure we were completely comfortable with each skill. I had a little trouble at the beginning of our first open water dive but Chris stayed right with me until I felt comfortable, relaxed and able to perform the required skills. Day 2 of open water dives with Jeff and Richard just flew by without so much as a hiccup and I owe it all to the patience and understanding of all these awesome guys. We’re already planning a trip back to do our advanced class and considering booking a dive trip with them. They’re a truly amazing group. Thanks a lot, Jeff G, Richard, Chris, Carl and Jeff.
