(Yelp Review Houston) My girlfriend and I took the PADI Open Water certification at the Richmond location and had the opportunity of having Pat Keller as our instructor. It was a positive experience and I would recommend friends and family to Maximum Scuba. We had good expecations of Maximum Scuba and its instructors because they had been recommended by some of our friends. I have not taken classes at other scuba training locations in Houston but from talking to the other shops and from online research I would say the following separates Maxiumum Scuba from the rest:
– I got the feeling they actually cared about their course participants and the experience we had. It seems simple but in this day and age it means something. I felt safe and comfortable during the entire experience.
– The cost was low, I never felt sales pressure and THEY DID NOT MAKE YOU purchase equipment before the course which was the biggest selling point. They allow you to use loaner equipment and it seemed to be of good quality.
– They were very accommodating. In one instance a pair of rental fins were uncomfortable while we were training at the lake. Pat made a couple calls and had a coworker bring some larger size fins out for me.
– The instructor Pat made the training fun. He is a very comedic and animated guy that totally fits the cliche of a west coast hippie surfing instructor (or in this case scuba).
